Follow Through

One of the hard things about being a parent is follow through. It is so important, but, man! it takes such patience.  My son had made a mess with all of his toys and I told him that I was going to empty them all out and he needed to organize them and put them all away.  The ones he no longer played with, we would put in the trash or give away.  This is not something you can tell a four year old and expect for him to do all by himself.  Then came the follow through. We emptied out all of his toys from there containers and found a place for each item. Cars here, trucks here, tools here, blocks here. It sounds simple.  But, with all of the distractions it took us forever to accomplish. but, we did end up getting it done.

Another way the follow through is hard is discipline .” If you don’t still your body, we can’t go to your cousins”. That’s tough because, I WANT TO GO TO HIS COUSINS and visit my brother and his wife.  I always tell my husband to make the threat something that’s livable for us.  Cause if it’s impossible for us to carry out, then our son begins to push it and will not believe there will be consequences for his actions and act crazy.

I have seen many parents that don’t follow through and the children are out of control. I am not pointing fingers here. In some cases it takes all a parent has just to get through the day. I’m just saying follow through is a crucial part of our kids life.
